Located in Bellevue, Washington, ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea-based NCSoft Corporation. The studio was formed in the spring of 2000 with the goal of creating a state-of-the-art interactive game network, and of developing premier multiplayer, online games. Having built such a network, ArenaNet continues to improve upon it, keeping stride with current technology and offering new and innovative approaches, such as a subscription-free business model, instanced missions, and streaming updates, which eliminate the need for patching. NCSoft West is looking for an exceptional server programmer to join our team. Qualified candidates should love agile development, working independently on their own challenges as well as together with the team on the bigger vision. You’ll be working on the analysis, architecture and implementation of web services and authentication.

Programmer - Server Programmer Requirements

Deep understanding of security and scalability issues
Experience with concurrency and complex messaging
Extensive experience with TCP, sockets, and WinSock
Extensive experience with multithreading
Strong C/C++ skills
Knowledge of scripting languages, Ruby/Javascript preferred
Strong math skills
A passion for high performance
3+ year of professional programming experience (not necessarily in the game industry)

Send your resume and code samples in C/C++ that demonstrate your ability to engineer practical solutions to difficult problems. We prefer to see code in such areas as multithreading, sockets, or other difficult problems. We generally look for at least 2500 lines of code in at least two different subject areas. We encourage you to send code that will show your best work, and would suggest avoiding linked-list implementations, matrix transformations, lightweight "wrappers", and the like, as those samples tend not to give a clear idea of your abilities. If you collaborated with other programmers on the code that you submit with your resume, please give us a clear indication of which parts you wrote. Finally, please do not submit executables, make-files or data files. Code samples will be held in the strictest confidence and used solely for the purpose of evaluating your abilities.
